[ ABOUT THE EVENT ]
When it comes to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging efforts, a commitment and plan for change is only as good as its impact.
More money than ever is being spent on DEIB work. Global Industry Analysts Inc. reports that the global market for Diversity and Inclusion was estimated in the US at $9.3 billion in 2022, and it is projected to reach $15.4 billion by 2026. Yet, after spending exceedingly large amounts of money on DEIB training, tools, tech and HR strategies, we continue to see little impact. Even though the majority of executives rate DEIB as an important issue, Gallup found that people of color are more likely to experience workplace bias with about 24% of Black and Hispanic or Latinx employees experiencing discrimination in the workplace. Furthermore, according to The Bureau of Labor Statistics, 10.1% of people with disabilities were unemployed in the previous year, while the average US unemployment rate sits at approximately 8.1%.
With that said, organizations who crack the code to fostering workplace inclusion and belonging reap significant benefits. According to McKinsey, corporations identified as more diverse and inclusive are 35% more likely to outperform their competitors. In fact, McKinsey’s 2020 “Diversity Wins” study found that “companies in the top quartile for ethnic and cultural diversity outperformed those in the fourth quartile by 36% in profitability.”
What’s the key to creating diverse teams and unleashing their power? According to Qualtrics, a sense of belonging is the top driver for employee satisfaction. To put it simply, when people feel included and feel a sense of belonging, they are more inclined to voice their big ideas, share criticisms, and take risks - without the fear of embarrassment and judgment.
The work is hard, but there are effective ways to weave inclusion & belonging into the ethos and fabric of the organization. Join us and learn the strategies that place inclusion & belonging at the heart of our organizational culture.
